Can anyone help with this problem?

My friend has an NSM Hit 120 which was working normally until a lot of
credits were put on ( this may be a coincidence that is nothing to do with
the problem?). A fault has now occurred which seems to be fairly common;
when a selection is made, the carriage moves back and forth twice
but no record is selected.

I live in the UK some distance from my friend and as I have a little
electronics experience I said that I would have a look at the controller
(#41475) to see if the fault was there, although I was not able to check the
unit under power as the jukebox remains with my friend, I have checked all
of the electrolytic capacitors, all of the diodes and high power resistors,
I also checked the coil of the relay on the board LP l where the BRY 20 is
fitted (approx 800 ohm so), no faulty items were found. I did note that the
triac BRY 20 did not appear to be original and the one fitted was not
installed in the orientation shown on the PCB markings. I sourced a genuine
replacement and fitted this and then returned the controller to my friend.
On fitting and powering up, the fault was still present.

Following my checks and replacement of BRY 20 it is noted that when a
selection is made and whilst the carriage is moving, it is possible to
select a record by manually closing the relay on the LP1 board. It is also
noted that when the carriage is travelling, no relays (search relay?) are being pulsed on
the LPll board which I think should be happening when I study YouTube clips
of the machine.

All comments welcome, thank you

Hello Alanh,
check / clean the contacts below the record stack and the readout contacts and wiring of the carriages outrigger,
Regards PitinWHV.

Hello PitinWHV and thanks very much for your very fast reply!

I will get my friend to check this and I will then report back to the forum, hopefully this may solve the fault, I had suspected that as the search relay was not pulsing when the carriage was moving, the signal from the carriage was not reaching the controller so it's nice to have this confirmed.

Kind regards

Alanh
