Hello Sean,

Error 34 on the Rowe Ami models R-89 to R-94 means:-

The Magazine rotated and the optical switch Home signal (at position 99) remained low (active) for more than 30 seconds.
This is one of the errors that shuts down the jukebox, switching OFF & ON may get the jukebox working again after clearing the error.

The posiible faults can be as follows:-

Opto Switch (remove it and clean it, also the gear it passes through) check your opto switch adjustments.
Mechanism Control
Central Control Computer
Mechanism Control wiring

If in doubt get your boards and opto switch checked out by a Rowe Ami specialist.

Hi
Managed to clear the errors, the machine is set to free play, power supply led's on. I can scan the record basket, the opto led blinks and other flashes at home position but when I make a selection nothing happens, anyone any advice on this, more than likely the mechanism board and computer control centre need to be checked out

Hi
I have to admit I made a stupid error, I set it to free play but didn't save it correctly as per the manual, I was wondering why the led display was not lighting up or indicating anything. For now anyway it seems to select ok but now and again it may miss a selection and display error 34, but if I clear that error and make same selection it goes ok. I am familiar with the opto switch on a rockola, nsm and wurlitzer but on the rowe ami can it be cleaned in situ or what way do you take it out.
Another thing that happens from time to time is that when you make a selection, it accepts it but the machine may take 40 to 50 seconds to kick into action

Hi Sean,

You need to check from the power supply PCB boad upward for dry joints (called cold joints in USA) on all of the connections going to all the boards.

The mechanism should revolve as soon as you how finished your selection from the keyboard.

The opto is easily removed for cleaning, is there any slap in the mechanism from side to side, if this is the case then the stem bushing will have rotted or broken from being brittal, the sprag wheel could also be damaged.

Check out the mechanism mechanically and then send your boards away for testing/repair.

Hi Alan
The error 34 seems to have gone since I cleaned the opto. The machine selects and plays fine now. The pnly issue is for example if I make 5 selections the first plays ok' record finishes but then on the second the machine sits for about 50 seconds and then plays fine and the other remaining ones play fine.
Its almost if the machine is thinking or processing the info.
Regards
Sean
