NSM ESII

I have a nsm machine which 50 percent of the time when turned on, relay MO does not activate the other 50 percent of the time it will activate. Obviously when relay MO does not activate the machine will not scan or select. In cases when it does not activate when the machine is turned on I notice is that it will activate if i move the tone arm to the cut off position when carriage is at home position. Could this be a problem with the BS micro switch

In case the carriage does not move after making a selection, what happens if you press the scan relay FA?

I hope I am right:
BS opens when the tonearm touches the record. This causes next to releasing mute function that the motor relay drops and the circuits to the drive motor open. At the end of the record the tonearm touches the reed contact which energizes the motor relay (and mutes the amp). So the motor for returning the record gets activated.

in some cases the machine when turned on relay mo will activate, selections will work and relay mo will drop at start of record and energise when record is finished, in this case pressing scan before a selection will operate the carriage. In other cases when machine is turned on relay mo does not energise as it should the scan button will not work. The only way to get the relay to energise is to manually push tone arm forward so that the reed switch operates and then relay mo energises and records play as normal. It seems in these cases relay mo in not energising as it should when machine is switched on. Si I was wondering what could be causing this intermittent fault with relay mo

Hello seancalla

The cut - off switch is parallel to the operating mode switch (BS). It must always be closed, except for the time a record is playing. I think with ES II technology it is a microswitch, which is probably defective.

Thanks, have never changed a BS switch before , any advise or what way to remove, its very tight for space where it is located

It is best to take the carriage out to the workbench. Then you arm yourself with a large pot of coffee (no beer) and a lot of patience Perhaps one of the NSM specialists can give you exact instructions.

Mal was Grundsätzliches zum BS . Die sind für ihre Funktion zu schwach Dimensioniert . Somit sind die gerne mal defekt . Es gibt dafür 5 Ampere Typen die allerdings nicht so einfach zu bekommen sind . NSM hat ihrerseits bei späteren Versionen eine kleine Platine vorne unter den Tonarm montiert mit zwei Leistungstransistoren die den BS praktisch völlig entlasten da dieser damit lediglich den Basistrom schalten muss . Hier gibt es gern mal kalt Lötstellen an den Transistoren . Der Betriebsartenschalter selber ist auf ein schwarzes Kunststoffteil montiert welches nur mit einer Schraube befestigt ist . Man kann diese Schraube entfernen und dann das ganze Teil herausnehmen wobei die Kabel doch recht kurz sind was ein Gewisses Können beim Löten verlangt . Problematisch ist bei der ganzen Geschichte die Mutter der Schraube die das ganze hält . Die später wieder in ihre Halterung zu bekommen verlangt zwei extra Gelenke in den Fingern . Mit dieser Befestigungsschraube wird später auch der Schalter eingestellt da der Halter unten lediglich gelagert ist und das Loch oben größer ist als der Durchmesser der Schraube .
